European Food Information Resource (EuroFIR) is an international non-profit association. The purpose of this body is to develop and publish food composition information, promote international cooperation and improve the dissemination of information.

Food composition data are essential for the calculation of nutrient intake from consumption data. EUROFIR collects available food information globally from participating organisations in Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States, as well as validated information about bioactive compounds. Individual and institutional members, including dieticians, food manufacturers, regulators and academia, have access to food information, online tools and best practice guidelines. The organisation also promotes professional development and networking events, and opportunities to join research projects.

The EU provided funding for the EUROFIR-NEXUS project with the goal to further integrate and refine the European food platform database to support research efforts regarding relationships between food, diets and health.

Partners compile and organise the storage of high-quality food composition data and information. They developed and maintain user-friendly tools for informational exchange from national databases to external users. Training events and dissemination of information about new standards and use of databases are an essential part of the project.

EUROFIR-NEXUS creates an integrated set of European standards for food data and advanced tools that enable users to access, store and browse sets of databases with easy online access.
