October 16, 2021 | Dubai WORLD EXPO 2020, UAE
The consumption of the Mediterranean Diet, recognized as an intangible heritage of Humanity (UNESCO, 2010), is progressively declining due to both globalization and the economic crisis. Will it be possible to recover this diet? Will the knowledge of human biology and the expression of our genes in relation to the foods we eat be useful for preventing chronic diseases and promoting healthy aging?
These questions were the main focus of the Scientific Forum hosted by the Italian Pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020. The forum entitled "Disentangling the Secret of the Longevity in the Mediterranean Populations".
Dr. Antonia Trichopoulou, President of the Hellenic Health Foundation attended the Dubai Expo 2020 event, originally delayed due to the Covid 19 epidemic and held in December 2021. Dr. Trichopoulou contributed to the forum and gave a presentation entitled, "Transferability of the Mediterranean diet to non-Mediterranean countries".
